The Don Bosco Beatitudes Welfare Centre started to help the women of the slum in the early seventies. The programme was inaugurated in 1976. The purpose was to instruct the mothers of the surrounding slums in health, hygiene and domestic care.

The numbers of beneficiaries had grown from 400 in 1977 to 5000 in 1986. Today, more than 15000 people benefit from this programme. 30 of the slums situated around Vyasarpadi come under this programme.

Our aim is to help the women of the slum by teaching them crafts in order for them to get a job, by welcoming their children in the creche so they can work and by, as much as we can, provide them a job.
