Rehabilitation of lepers was one of the aims of Father Mantovani when he created the Don Bosco Beatitudes Centre. Very quickly, a land was purchased out of Vyasarpadi, at Chinna Sakkadu village in Madhavaram. A very nice area named Pope John’s Garden has been created for the leprosy patients: their houses are built in the middle of coconut trees, mango trees and beautiful plants. The Sisters of St. Charles Borromeo are managing Pope John’s Garden. They take a very good care of the leprosy patients. The lepers are engaged in some small industries such as piggery, poultry farm, coir rope making, candle making and small handicrafts to occupy their time and to earn some income for themselves and for the colony.
