Transit Schools
This became an urgent need since the children either are stopped by the parents themselves for their personal need, discouraged from schooling or drop off from schooling not having inclination or encouragement to study, from the elders. Hence, since the year 2002, such children from the slums are sought by our field workers, brought to the Centre to have regular coaching by teachers, fed, encouraged to study. They are prepared well for the different classes to be inserted back in different schools at the beginning of the new scholastic year and followed up. This our efforts have doubly paid. The parents and children above all are very happy, grateful and appreciative. We thank God for having given us this opportunity to serve these needy children.

 

Don Bosco Transit School is an effort by Don Bosco Beatitudes to address the problem of School-drop-outs!

Through the network of Self Help Groups located across the slums of North Chennai and the volunteers and staff, we scan the streets for school dropout and troop them into a special school arrangement where children are taught subjects and lessons keeping with their age and capability. Through the assistance of the Corporation of Chennai these children are then provided Regular Transfer Certificates in June so that they can join the regular stream of schooling from the ensuing academic year. 90 School dropout Children form the strength of this school in 3 centres (Centre, Sathya Moorthy Nagar & Kannigapuram). This operation is recognized & assisted by the State Government of Tamil Nadu.
