VED- The Vyasarpadi Elders Day celebrated for over 20 years at the Beatitudes is a very special moment in the calendar of Don Bosco Beatitudes. Its an event where the responsibility of the society is roused and every good hearted person contributes his mite to make over 500 elders (grannies & grandpas) selected from the more deserving of the slum populace with the help of the different arms of Beatitudes Social Welfare Centre like its volunteers, members of Self Help Groups (spread across the slums of North Chennai) and dedicated staff.

To reaffirm our commitment of our social responsibility towards the aged invites are sent out to all our "FBCs - Friends of Beatitudes - Chennai" to participate in the event by contributing via donations in cash/kind. On the day, the elders are decked up with special bandanas/sun shades for the event and are treated to a rich cultural programme to help them to relax, specialists address them on issues concerning the aged (eminent personalities like psychologists, doctors, social workers are drafted-in), a high tea then is served followed by distribution of Gift Packets containing clothing (sarees, dhothis, lungies, blanket, warm clothing for upcoming winter) and other articles. Its a special event to reflect the fact that in respecting and acknowledging these elderly we attain our dignity when our time turns up.
